Traders in Akwa Ibom state are calling for the release of another batch of state-sponsored interest-free loans to cushion the effect of losses incurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The merchants added that there is a need to establish an office for merchants in the 31 local government councils in the state as well as the establishment of the office of the Principal Special Assistant to the Governor for Commercial Matters.
The chairman of the association in the state and special assistant to the governor of Akwa Ibom for trade and market issues, Mr. Idorenyin Raphael said this during a speech at the summit and the trade exhibition. Nigerian traders on the theme “Growth of an inclusive economy: the cooperative way”. ‘
He said, “Allow me to thank you specifically for your fatherly disposition towards traders in Akwa Ibom State. I am happy to stand before you to count our blessings.
“The provision of N2bn’s interest free loan to traders under their cooperative societies to expand our business activities has really improved the fortunes of traders in the state. Some of the traders have been provided with processing equipment to produce and package their products for sale with good after-sales profits.
