UP government officer suspended for placing photo of al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden in power


A government officer in Uttar Pradesh has been suspended from duty for placing a photo of Osama bin Laden, the founder of the terror group al-Qaeda, in his office describing him as ‘the best junior engineer in the world’ and hailing him as his “guru,” PTI reported, citing officials. The man was notably an officer in a state-run electricity distribution company in Farrukhabad.

As reported by PTI, Ravindra Prakash Gautam, a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (DVVNL) had placed a picture of Osama Bin Laden with a note below that read: “Respected Osama Bin Laden , the best junior engineer in the world”. The matter was taken into consideration by senior district officials and they ordered Gautam’s immediate suspension. Later, the photo was removed from the SDO office. However, the photo of the al-Qaeda founder with the message has gone viral on social media. media.

Giving details on the matter, Farrukhabad District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh told PTI that DVVNL’s chief executive suspended Gautam after an investigation into the incident. On the other hand, the suspended SDO however defended their actions, stating that anyone can be someone’s “idol” or “guru”.

“Osama was the best young engineer in the world. The photo has been taken down but I have several copies,” he added.

Who was Osama Bin Laden?

Founder of the pan-Islamic terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden was considered one of the most feared terrorists in the world. An engineer by training, he was the mastermind of several terrorist attacks causing numerous victims, including the September 11 attacks in the United States.

He was killed by US special forces who followed, ambushed and killed him in Abbottabad, Pakistan in 2011.
